LOS ANGELES — California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) officials are looking for Jory M. Mixon, 29, who walked away from a Male Community Re-entry Program (MCRP) facility in Los Angeles on Saturday, July 23. The MCRP is near the corner of 6th and Alvarado in the Rampart area.

After being notified at approximately 6:55 p.m. that Mixon’s GPS device had been manipulated, MCRP staff initiated an emergency count and facility search.  They discovered Mixon’s GPS monitor had been discarded and Mixon was missing.

Notification was immediately made to local law enforcement agencies. Within minutes, agents from CDCR’s Office of Correctional Safety were dispatched to locate and apprehend the walkaway.

Mixon is a Hispanic male with black hair and brown eyes. He is 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs 230 pounds.

Mixon was admitted from Los Angeles County on March 25, 2015, to serve a 2-year, 8 month sentence for Evading a Peace Officer while driving recklessly. Mixon was transferred from the California Institution for Men to the MCRP on May 19, 2016.   He was scheduled to be released to probation in September 2016.

The MCRP allows eligible inmates committed to state prison to serve the end of their sentences in the re-entry center and provides them the programs and tools necessary to transition from custody to the community. The MCRP is a voluntary program for male inmates who have approximately 120 days left to serve. The program links offenders to a range of community-based rehabilitative services that assist with substance use disorders, mental health care, medical care, employment, education, housing, family reunification and social support.

Anyone who sees Mixon or has any knowledge of his whereabouts should immediately contact law enforcement or call 911.

Since 1977, ninety-nine percent of all offenders who have left an adult institution, camp, or community-based program without permission have been apprehended.
